When Leap Academy Charter School, a school with a STEM curriculum decided to bring quality public education to the children of Camden, New Jersey, they turned to Bellia to help design and outfit their school. By using bright colors, flexibility and multipurpose design in each area, Bellia not only made sure that LEAP Academy met its goals of Leadership, Education, and Partnership, but created a learning environment where students could grow and succeed.
In the classrooms, Bellia incorporated moveable seating arrangements, so students could work independently as well as collaboratively. With this concept, Bellia stepped away from the traditional desk and chair type classroom and moved towards a new, fun, and engaging environment.
Bellia provided LEAP with custom designed lab tables and chairs with storage to make efficient and practical use of the space. While still maintaining a cohesive look with the other classrooms, Bellia was able to design a creative and efficient Science Lab to help LEAP Academy foster an engaging, collaborative learning environment.
Founded in 1997, LEAP Academy Charter School was the first charter school to open in Camden City. Since its modest beginnings in temporary modular units, LEAP currently occupies 5 buildings along Camden’s education corridor. One of only a few comprehensive K-12 public charter schools in the state of New Jersey, it now provides quality public education to over 1,500 children in the city of Camden.
